Creative Wales awards are targeted at individual artists and their development at critical times in their careers.  It is what in other sectors of the economy might be called R&D money – research and development.  But “no man (or woman) is an island” as the poet tells us, and sooner or later the findings of their R&D work make their way back to audiences in performances, exhibitions, new products and new ideas to be published or disseminated.

Equally artists do not work in isolation.  In this current round of awards we have artists who have been working variously through a wide variety of media, from radio to film via performances where you least expect them, pioneering techniques, engaging within Wales and beyond…

Art moves in mysterious and not always predictable ways. And that’s why the Arts Council of Wales is keen on the space these awards offer to artists, seeing them as a longer-term investment in how artists enrich and stimulate our lives.
